Frequently asked questions

How does the Surflash system work to confirm catheter placement?

The Surflash system is based on a special groove located on the outer wall of the internal needle. As soon as the needle enters the vein, blood rises in this groove and becomes visible through the transparent cap, immediately confirming correct positioning of the catheter in the venous lumen.

Which size of Surflash catheter should be chosen according to clinical indication?

Fine gauges (22G-24G) are suitable for fragile veins, paediatrics or standard infusions. Medium gauges (18G-20G) are suitable for transfusions and chemotherapy. Large gauges (14G-16G) are reserved for situations requiring high flow rates such as emergencies or major surgery.

Is the Terumo Surflash catheter compatible with patients allergic to latex?

Yes, this catheter contains no natural rubber latex components. It can therefore be used safely in patients with latex allergy or sensitivity.
